Old Montauk Highway, Montauk

Just daydreaming of burnt sky, Montauk highway and making my way back to New York.

Montauk NY, Early Autumn

No matter what city I visit nothing compares to that feeling you get when you escape to the beach and all you can hear is the sound of the surf and the crickets. Sadly the longer you are in a city the more and more you forget these sounds and the traffic becomes your bedtime musac.

On my first trip to Montauk I was pleasantly surprised considering the amazing coastlines we have back home, it was quiet when we arrived as most people go back to work after Labor day. The area is not as touristy and built-up as I thought it would be and it has that small town feel that reminds me of Barwon Heads in Victoria. I can’t imagine there being any good surf here but after visiting the Surf Lodge for dinner I may be wrong after all.

As luck has it when ever I start relaxing I get sick, so I had to spend one day locked up in hibernation as Shaun looked after me. I did let him go enjoy a swim whilst I looked out from the balcony wishing i was there too…

Global Gangway is a zine I created back in 1996. I came up with the name after traveling on the last carriage home and it has stayed with me since. There is something so symbolic about train travel that reminds me to never stop exploring. With my Dad's help in the dark room I found a few perfect frames for the first edition. 15 years later my journey continues.
